VariCon Systems

Varicon is a quality engineering consulting firm dedicated to developing intelligent software tools to help manufacturing clients apply the Taguchi experimental design technique for product and process design optimizations. The primary projects undertaken by Varicon involves developing an intelligent software package that will capture the logic and intelligence of an experienced experimenter, along with the unique terminology, language, and context used in the specific manufacturing industry that could free users from the need to have advanced knowledge of the DOE techniques generally required for successful application.

Background
Proven techniques for solving technical, performance, quality, and cost problems in traditional manufacturing have been available for years—specifically, the statistical technique known as Design of Experiments, or DOE. A standardized and much simplified version of the DOE technique has been successfully utilized in the electronic and automotive manufacturing industries for decades.

However, the skills necessary to implement these techniques require advanced training. In emerging manufacturing industries, the resources necessary for acquiring this advanced training are often lacking—both financial and/or human. The goal of our project is to develop an intelligent software tool that will allow plant floor personnel to implement proven techniques for problem solving, process design optimization, and cost reduction—without the need for advanced training or outside expertise.
